The new production plant of Minebea Slovakia, s.r.o. were ceremoniously opened

Japanese investor MinebeaMitsumi opened the biggest plant in Europe on Friday, June 15, in the industrial park in Košice. Representatives of the government - Peter Pellegrini, Prime Minister of the SR, Richard Raši, Deputy Prime Minister of the Slovak Republic for Investment and Informatisation and Peter Žiga, Minister of Economy of the Slovak Republic, also took part in the opening.

The construction of the race at the Kosice Airport lasted less than ten months. In order to build the plant and create jobs, the Slovak government approved investment aid of almost 20 million euros in 2017. The Japanese investor plans to invest more than EUR 60 million in the near future. The MinebeaMitsumi Group currently has 68 subsidiaries and branches employing over 100,000 people. The company in Košice occupies about 1,100 employees.

The Košice production plant is newfangled European plant with the production of products with high added value. It focuses on the production of mechatronic propulsion and electric motors for the industry, including automotive, as well as for the production of special electric motors and electromechanical products. It will also include a research and development center that will co-operate with an already established center in Germany and will focus on the development of special electric motors, propulsion systems, sensors and other components that will find use especially in the automotive industry. The company will work closely with the secondary schools and the Technical University of Košice.

The representative of the Japanese investor visited Kosice for the first time at the VIA FORUM 2016. The East Slovak Investment Agency contributed to the arrival of this investor through a personal meeting with representatives of the Japanese company at this event, the presentation of the region in the form of ESIG 2016 and also by atmosphere on Slovakia - German Business Forum 2016. We are pleased that the efforts that started in May 2016 continued with professional approach of SARIO and were successfully completed by the former mayor of Kosice, Richard Raši and the Minister of Economy of the Slovak Republic, Mr. Peter Žiga.
